What information must be included in a suspicious transaction report on goAML?
A suspicious transaction report filed on the UAE goAML portal must contain all available data and information relating to the transaction or funds and to the parties involved. In practice this includes subject information identifying the individual or entity, transaction details such as type, amount, and date, and a clear narrative explaining why the activity is considered suspicious. Supporting documents, typically in PDF form, should be attached to substantiate the report.
The narrative is the heart of the report. It should set out the facts, the red flags observed, how they relate to possible money laundering, terrorist financing, or proliferation financing, and what customer due diligence was performed. The law does not require the entity to prove that a crime occurred; reasonable suspicion is enough. Entities must also respond promptly to any follow-up requests from the Financial Intelligence Unit for additional information, again without invoking banking or professional secrecy.
