Within how many days must a UAE company update its beneficial owner register?
A legal person licensed or registered in the UAE must keep a Real Beneficiary Register and update it within fifteen days of any change to the information it holds. A new register must be created within sixty days of the resolution that brings the company under the real beneficiary rules, or on incorporation, and entries must reflect each beneficial owner’s full details.
The fifteen day window also applies when a company first includes a natural person in the register as a beneficial owner, and when it makes inquiries about a person’s beneficial owner status. If a person who receives an inquiry does not respond within fifteen days, the company must still complete the register using the information available to it.
Keeping the register current is not a one off formality. The Ministry of Economy and other authorities can request this information, and failure to maintain accurate and up to date beneficial owner records exposes the company to administrative fines under the related penalties resolution. Compliance teams should build periodic reviews into their processes so changes in ownership are captured promptly.
