What happens to a UAE real estate firm that fails to implement AML measures?

The Supplemental Guidance states that real estate agents and brokers who fail to implement adequate AML, CFT and CPF measures expose their firms and the wider sector to serious risks and may face supervisory actions, including financial penalties and other enforcement measures.

The Real Estate Money Laundering Typologies report puts figures on it. Administrative penalties range from a warning to penalties of no less than AED 50,000 and no more than AED 5,000,000 for each violation, together with banning the violator and suspending managers and the business licence.

The UAEFIU Reports FAQs add the personal exposure. Non-reporting of STRs or SARs where there are red flags or solid grounds of wrongdoing may lead to imprisonment of the compliance officer as well as fines and licence action against the firm.
