Who conducts the National Risk Assessment in the UAE?
The National Risk Assessment is led by the National Committee for Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organisations (NAMLCFTC), working with supervisory authorities, law enforcement, the Financial Intelligence Unit and the private sector. The Committee coordinates the exercise, consolidates data from across the economy and publishes the national findings.
By law the Committee is tasked with identifying and assessing crime risks at the national level and with setting the countermeasures that match the degree of risk. This is why the NRA carries weight for regulated businesses: it represents the State’s official view of where money laundering and terrorist financing risk is concentrated.
